Catherine Levasseur-Terrien

Artist Statement

Catherine Levasseur-Terrien works in the semiology of the image. She is interested in narrative and literary phenomena which co-exist in visual art and gives priority to an approach which employs psychiatric discourse. Through popular imagery and texts in the disciplines writing, photography and collage, Catherine Levasseur-Terrien explores contemporary mythology. With the project DS_SIMS, she has created a typology based on virtual games which construct a psychological portrait of a deviant personality.

Catherine Levasseur-Terrien studied visual art and art history at the University of Ottawa. She completed a year in the Portfolio Program at the School of the Photographic Arts: Ottawa (SPAO) where she worked in the portrait genre with the series LOL, which juxtaposed the meta-narratives of Vladimir Nabokov’s novel Lolita to teenagers’ blogs.
