MEMBERS’ CHALLENGE 2025
The DAÏMÔN team is excited to launch SCRATCH!; the 2025 Members’ Challenge. This year, our members are invited to explore direct animation and take up the challenge of creating 20 seconds animation on 16mm films. The results of this challenge will be presented in gallery from May 13th to 24th 2025.
* Direct animation, also known as ‘drawn-on animation’ or ‘animation without camera’, is the process of drawing, painting and scratching designs directly onto film.
To facilitate and support experimentation and the realization of works, registered members who wish to participate will receive a section of virgin black film with emulsion and have access to a variety of film scraps.
NO EXPERIENCE? NO PROBLEM!
Join us for our introduction and experimentation workshops on Saturdays April 12th and 26th, 2025.
WORKSHOP #1
| Introduction to Direct Animation |
Saturday, April 12th @ 1:00 PM
– up to 15 participants
Workshop #1 will focus on scratching black emulsion film, to creative a sequence of moving images.
WORKSHOP #2
| Image and Sound on Clear Film |
Saturday, April 12th @ 1:00 PM
– up to 15 participants
Workshop #2 will explore different techniques used with transparent film to create visual and sound effects.

PLEASE NOTE!
- The challenge is reserved for active members of Centre de production DAÏMÔN;
- Works created for the annual Members’ Challenge must be submitted no later than Friday, May 2nd @ 5:00 PM;
- Members may submit only one (1) final work in 16 mm format, at 24 frames per second, lasting no more than 20 seconds;
- Works will be screened in the gallery spaces at AXENÉO7 from May 13th to 24th ,2025. Screening times and other activities relative to the Challenge will be announced via social media;
- Participating members who submit final work for the May screening will receive a $100.00 Centre de production DAÏMÔN gift card.
