DAÏMÔN is an artist-run centre with the mandate of supporting research-creation, production and dissemination of media arts.

Founded in 1986 in the Outaouais region of Quebec, DAÏMÔN is a resource centre for artists in the region. It also hosts artists from Quebec, the rest of Canada and abroad in production residencies.

DAÏMÔN provides a range of resources for research-creation, production and dissemination of media arts, centered on three main areas: support for research-creation, equipment access services and special projects and events.

Through these activities,

  • Supports the creation of independent works in media art ;
  • Offers a variety of residency to support research-creation ;
  • Offers creatives spaces and high-end equipment rental services, with technical assistance ;
  • Offers development workshops based on artistic approaches ;
  • Organizes frequent arts dissemination activities (concerts, projections, public presentations) ;
  • Initiates local, regional and national partnerships and collaborations ;
  • Develops special projects and events that address present-day theoretical and practical issues in media art.

In carrying out its mandate,

DAÏMÔN believes in the value of independent artistic work, in innovation in the media arts, in intellectual rigour and in playing a vital role in the region as part of an artistic community.

The center supports artistic and technological exploration, making its facilities available for both experimentation and dissemination. The integration of production facilities available at the center enables artists to explore image, sound and movement in one setting, and to exhibit complex works that use a variety of media.

Because artistic projects are the hearth of DAÏMON’s mission, the team supports every artist on the conceptual, technical and artistic levels.

La Filature inc.

The Centre de production DAÏMÔN  is located within La filature inc. There are our research-creation spaces (the multifunction studio, the ambisonic studio, the darkroom and the electronic laboratory), our service spaces (equipment rental, printing services and cutting room) as well as our residence that allows us to welcome artists from afar.

We would like to warmly thank Culture Outaouais, the City of Gatineau and the Government of Quebec who supported the construction of our new sanitary facilities as part of the Modernization Program for Collective Artists’ Studios in Gatineau (2020-2021).

La Filature inc.

La Filature inc. is a non-profit organization with a mandate to manage cultural equipment for the artistic community, especially artists and organizations connected with visual arts and media arts. La Filature owns the building situated at 78/80/82 rue Hanson and runs it on a cost-sharing basis with the organizations and artists it houses. La Filature opened its doors on January 25, 2002, after renovation work that showcased its value as part of Gatineau’s industrial heritage and created suitable spaces for artist-run centres AXENÉO7 and DAÏMÔN. It also houses a few individual studios for professional artists.
