collaborative residence

Elaine Juteau

Elaine Juteau is a hybrid interdisciplinary artist who explores with curiosity and passion the many forms that art can take (theater, performance, sound, video, books, etc.). Her approach is based on research, collaboration, and experimentation. A sponge-like artist, she lets the world permeate her before reflecting it back.

Elaine is co-artistic director of Territoire 80, co-founder of the Collectif Les Poulpes (theater, performance, and visual arts), and a member of the Collectif Agnès, with whom she pursues a video practice.

about

Les chemins du tout rien

A theatrical and interdisciplinary exploration, both lucid and sensitive, of the paths of mourning, the before, during, and after, in the words of artist Elaine Juteau:

In the project Les chemins du tout rien, I am primarily seeking to lay the foundations for a future creation. I don’t yet know whether it will take the form of theater or performance. I am trying to reconnect with theatrical languages that speak to me—the body, sound, video, and matter.

My process began with immersing myself in the subject, which is still vast: rituals and death. My father’s death transformed my way of being in the world. This project is a way of exploring this intimate transformation, and also of reflecting on death.

I listened to several podcasts, read books and articles, and took an interest in different rites around the world, but above all, I tried to make space within myself to let the project grow. I consider myself a sponge artist: this first outing from the laboratory is a sensory immersion, a listening to what resonates, touches me, or confuses me.

Through sound, image, and the body, I sought to put myself into action, even though the project is still very much in my head. This stage allows me to put my body back into play, to confront the sensitive.

After moments of blockage and tears, I wanted to move towards playfulness, without quite succeeding yet. My daughter’s presence on set helps me to think differently and to bring life back into action and pleasure back into play. At DAÏMÔN, I will continue working on the image, the staging, and the dialogue.

From November 19 to 29, L’Avant-Première is partnering with the Centre de production DAÏMÔN for a two-week collaborative residency, at the end of which Elaine Juteau will present a performance of her project Les chemins du tout rien. Tickets are available for two performances on November 28 and 29 at 7 PM at Centre DAÏMÔN, 78 Hanson Street, Gatineau. Get your tickets for the show on the 28th or the one on the 29th now!
