First Work residency

Linh VH Nguyen

Linh VH Nguyen is a visual artist based in Ottawa on the unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe people.

Her practice explores memory, transformation, and the connections between natural and personal cycles. Working with digital and analog photographic processes and video, she experiments with how images can hold moments of change, fragmentation, and quiet renewal. Her work has been shown in Canada and internationally, including in the Ottawa Art Gallery Annex, and is part of the City of Ottawa’s permanent collection.

about

Project Proposal

This project is an experimental short film that uses projection mapping, structured improvised dance sequences, and analog/digital image-making to explore transformation through the metaphor of mushrooms and mycelial networks. During the residency, the artist will be testing projection setups, filming short movement-based sequences, and creating a small number of darkroom prints and animated overlays.

The piece is an early exploration of how light, movement, and organic materials can interact to reflect cycles of breakdown and regrowth, drawing inspiration from ecological processes and the artist’s interest in how the body relates to natural systems.
