GIMP is a free software for editing and retouching images. This powerful software with a wide range of features is probably the best alternative to Adobe Photoshop. And unlike Adobe Photoshop, GIMP is free!

During this one-day course, participants will learn how to use the basic functions of the software as well as more advanced ones.

Catherine Lescarbeau, the instructor, will present the interface and basic tools and how to work with layers, masks, filters, selection, retouching, painting and transformation tools. In order to consolidate their learning of the software, Catherine will accompany the participants in the creation of a personal digital collage.

Don’t forget to bring your lunch!

Catherine Lescarbeau is currently pursuing a PhD in Art Studies and Practices at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). As a multidisciplinary artist, she is interested in the relationship between conceptual art and institutional criticism and the relevance of these approaches today. She has participated in several solo and group exhibitions in Quebec and France (Dazibao, Galerie UQO, Galerie Leonard & Bina Ellen, La Mirage, Fonderie Darling, FRAC Lorraine).

She is actively involved in the arts community, including on the boards of directors and programming committees of major arts organizations in Montreal and Gatineau, such as AXENÉO7 between 2015 and 2022 and as of 2018 on the board of directors of the Darling Foundry. She was the general coordinator of the research group on auctions in contemporary arts (UQAM-FRQSC 2016-2019), under the direction of artist and professor David Tomas, for whom she was a research assistant for several years. She also teaches visual arts at Cégep de l’Outaouais since 2014.
