DETONATIONS

WINTER-SPRING 2021

DAÏMÔN is proud to officially inaugurate its ambisonic studio by presenting DETONATIONS ; a sound art exploration and creation project.

Eight multidisciplinary artists and collectives are invited to invest our new studio to develop works and share their approach to sound spatialization under the theme DETONATIONS.

DÉTONATIONS is a conception by DAÏMÔN, realized within the framework of the Outaouais 2019-2020 Territorial Partnership Program and receives financial support from the Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec, the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation and the city of Gatineau.

Sonia Paço-Rocchia

Sonia Paço-Rocchia  is an artist with a practice ranging from composition to interactive kinetic sound installation through web art and improvisation. If the theatrical and visual aspect is an integral part of her work, the sound research at its core is seen in the exploitation and expansion of the sound palettes of the instruments, as well as in the use of unusual, found and invented instruments. Being a professional coder herself, new technologies are quickly integrated into her work. From digital to raw violin making, she makes her own interfaces, real-time sound processing software and instruments. She is a bassoonist-improviser, she plays solo or in small ensembles.

Sonia Paço-Rocchia received a commission for a work for double bass flute, sculpture and electronics from flutist Jeff Stonehouse. Space is at the heart of this work in which the listener will find himself in the midst of the double bass flute’s blows colored by a metal microphone sculpture. For this residency she will work on a sound placement system that uses timbres and pitches to arrange different sound colors in space.
