DETONATIONS | Yolande Laroche

DAÏMÔN is proud to officially inaugurate its ambisonic studio by presenting DETONATIONS ; a sound art exploration and creation project.

 Seven multidisciplinary artists and collectives are invited to invest our new studio to develop works and share their approach to sound spatialization under the theme DETONATIONS.

DÉTONATIONS is a conception by DAÏMÔN, realized within the framework of the Outaouais 2019-2020 Territorial Partnership Program and receives financial support from the Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec, the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation and the city of Gatineau.

Yolande Laroche is a Franco-Taiwanese artist from Gatineau. She reflects on themes of alienation and her mixed identity through her unloved/unloved experimental project.

Mal/aimé is an experimental solo project directed by clarinettist Yolande Laroche. The music is based on clarinet, synthesizer and voice textures that fuse traditional instrumentation with real-time effects to create dynamic melodies that oscillate between consonance and cacophony. Mal/aimé is an initiative that allows the free exploration of a compositional approach that uses improvisation through sound processing and manipulation.

For DETONATIONS, Yolande Laroche will explore with her project Mal/aimé a composition based on improvisation with real-time effects, using the clarinet, an instrument that has a potential that is both melodic and percussive at the same time. Waves of synthesizer textures will serve as a support for the soft and sometimes daring melodies and the voice, used here as an instrument, will transport us into Yolande’s prismatic and unexpected world. All played unexpectedly will inform a meditative practice to symbolize the power of the present moment, a sound journey between chaos and peace.
